As Technē celebrates 20 years, Indesign editor Alice Blackwood asks Nick Travers, Justin Northrop and Steve McKeag about how the business started, where it’s going, and the journey of hospitality environments over the past two decades.

Turning 20 is no small milestone when you’re a business in design. It also gives you lots of excuses to celebrate your people, your clients and the fabulous projects you’ve produced. When I recently caught up with the directors of Technē Architecture + Interior Design, the spirit of celebration and reflection was strong.
Between them, Nick Travers, Justin Northrop and Steve McKeag have built Technē from its early beginnings into a national design practice offering integrated services of architecture and interior design.
The business was built upon strong foundations of hospitality design and it’s a rare person that has not spent time in a Technē-designed hospitality space in Melbourne. Think, The Espy of St Kilda, The Prahran Hotel, RACV Healesville Club, Brunetti, Garden State Hotel… the list continues.
In this special podcast, we hear about the founding of the practice by then-graduates Nick and Justin, who set out with hope, vision and lots of energy to make their way in the world. They share their perspectives on what makes a truly successful hospitality venue, how the tenets of hospitality design reach into other typologies like residential design, what it’s like to grow regionally and nationally, plus more.
Tune in for this unique conversation with the directors of Technē , and learn first-hand about what makes them tick – and the chemistry that keeps their business alive and growing.
