When considered from the perspective of the human experience, a chair is not merely an object. It is a human vantage point within a space, it is the focal point for energies and activities, and it is a visual anchor that guides activities and emotions.

For nearly four decades, the Aeron chairs by Herman Miller have been synonymous with ergonomics, functional elegance and environmental responsibility.
This is not a reputation taken lightly, instead, there is a drive for continual innovation. Refinements and enhancements respond to the evolving trends within workplaces and the science of human health and behaviour, for example, the recent interest in biophilia and the cognitive benefits of colour.
The new Aeron finishes in Jasper and Nightfall are the result of a long process of discovery by the design team at MillerKnoll, who recognised that the legacy of the Covid-19 pandemic was a reshaping of the perception of the workplace.

In 2023, the UK Workplace Survey by the Gensler Research Institute also reinforced what many organisations were experiencing: today’s workplace must reflect the diversity and fluidity of post-pandemic work styles.
Working from home had given people the opportunity to enjoy being productive while surrounded by colour, plants, and personalisation. The professional palette shifted from the whites, blacks, creams and greys of corporate open plan to an array of greens and other evocative hues.
Our intuitive gravitation towards plant-like colours and textures is an example of what is known as biophilia, the innate human affinity for the natural world. Research is showing this also has benefits for wellbeing, emotional regulation, productivity and stress reduction. Ecological Valence Theory, for example, suggests that people tend to prefer colours associated with positive experiences in the natural world.
This wisdom is expressed in the Jasper and Nightfall Aeron chairs. Jasper calls to mind the deep greens of the forest canopy and the lustre of aged stonework, while Nightfall summons the deep blue of the sky at that last moment of dusk, with all its possibilities.
They enable designers to utilise the language of colour in ways that can support intuitive use of space. Complimenting wall, floor and fitout schemes to define social areas, collaboration zones and those places that people will gravitate towards for focused work.

The quality of the Aeron chairs in their new iteration remains exceptional. The saturated hues of the finishes are not merely a surface application but are an engineered outcome that is intrinsic to each detail. These impeccably developed finishes require alignment across materials, textiles, plastics and structural components so the chair reads as one cohesive form. Each element, every connection point, is meticulously made, and careful calibration across each element from foundational materials to texture and finish ensures a perfect synergy of aesthetics and performance.
On a functional level, the ergonomic and operational features of the Aeron chairs are in synergy with the colour hues, embedding relevant cues for decisions and behaviours that align with wellbeing in the workplace.
In collaborative settings, Aeron in Nightfall can help reinforce a more connected and expressive environment, particularly when paired with layered blues or other deeper tones. This suits spaces intended for collaboration such as conference rooms and team studios.
Research by MillerKnoll suggests utilising cool blues in the surroundings can often support collaboration, with occupants reporting that time feels as though it passes more quickly in these environments.

For zones where concentration and diligence are desired, Aeron in Jasper with adjustable PosturefitSL provides the support and ease required. This can be enhanced through the use of sage or olive tones in the immediate vicinity, to create a sense of calm and seclusion that facilitates focus.
The fundamental philosophy is to position colour as something beyond decorative. Instead, it becomes an expression of place, an enabler of purpose and a fundamental element of a product.
As we reimagine a world where humans and nature exist in harmony, Jasper and Nightfall ensure this same ethos can be brought into the contemporary workplace, creative coherent interior aesthetics that support the occupants in body, mind and spirit.
