When the Changi Airport needed commercial doors throughout their new terminal, they knew they needed something secure, but also stylish – enter the Australian Trellis Door Company.
Working closely with procurement specialist JEB Asia, Australian Trellis Door Company (ATDC) supplied its unique security grilles to eight tenancies at the Changi Airport new T4 Heritage Zone. The area has been designed to showcase Singapore’s local culture and flavour to international passengers and needed style as well as security in its doors.
The Heritage Zone offers tourists and businesspeople alike a glimpse into the evolution of the shophouse architecture of Singapore from the 1880s to the 1950s. Part of the brief for ATDC was to install security grilles that would complement the traditional façade of the pre-war shop houses while still working with the aesthetics of the existing retail shops.
There are preserved shop houses still in existence and they are under heritage conservation in Singapore’s Katong and Chinatown areas. A further requirement was that the security grilles were to occupy as minimal an amount of storage space as was physically possible when unlocked and opened.
With the above in mind, Changi Airport specified ATDC’s S07-2 side- by-side retractable security grilles – a product that is among the most space efficient commercial door systems in the world. By installing these in a complex and space efficient design, ATDC was able to offer a secure solution that occupies a mere 8% of area in the opening hours.
Through the use of its seamless up/down locking mechanisms ATDC was able to provide a lock up solution over a wide area without the need for any cumbersome removable vertical bars or expensive floor tracking.
Finished in a precious silver pearl powdercoat finish, the doors blend in with the surrounding finishes of the Changi Airport Heritage Zone without distraction. Standard ATDC stock finishes include pearl white or satin black although any Dulux powdercoat finish can be achieved to match any individual colour scheme.
Customer designed and fabricated to specific sizes, ATDC’s security and commercial doors were the finishing touch for the Changi Airport – offering a designer solution for security that’s safe, secure and stylish.
ATDC sells its security grilles across Australia, South East Asia and the greater Asia Pacific region.
