A bistro that pays homage to the existing mid-century and Japanese-inspired architecture of its context.

Cala by Pony Design Co. is a response to the existing mid-century and Japanese-inspired architecture of its context. It’s an alfresco bistro whose internal and external areas have been redesigned, filled with intimate nooks and lacquered with nostalgic features that were retained and served as inspiration for the structural forms throughout. As such, the venue now has an array of seating and ambience for every kind of gathering.
Aptly, the designers cannibalised the original floors and layout to imbue the bistro with nostalgic design features – I mean, what’s more mid-century than a Frank Lloyd Wright wall sconce? The existing fireplace was improved to create an intimate, fire-side cocoon for guests. Alternatively, sequestered behind plant screens and cabinets, patrons can discover secluded alcoves or take a seat at the cocktail bar.

The space is envisioned around an illustrious story: a worldly muse – a glamorous traveller who collects objets d’art and stories from across the globe – whose love of Asian-fusion and mid-century design amalgamates, enveloping the venue with her aficionado for music, fashion, art and cuisine.
