This November marks 25 years since Greg Natale opened his Sydney studio. In the decades since, he has built one of Australia’s most recognisable design practices, defined by pattern and decorative conviction.

As an interior designer, Greg Natale has made an indelible contribution, not only in Australia but across the globe. With his exciting vision, outstanding products and striking interiors, Natale has been at the forefront of design since his eponymous practice began.
While Natale is renowned for his portfolio of bespoke, high-end residential projects, he has also spread his name and design prowess far and wide through furniture, flooring, bathware, textiles and wallpaper collections in collaboration with brands such as Bisazza, Serafini, Tongue & Groove, TeraNova, Plumbline, Art Hide, Kaolin, Signature Prints, Covet Collection, Kindel, Elliott Clarke and Porter’s Paints.

Natale was early to extend his design language into product, launching his first collaboration with Designer Rugs in 2009, and his collections have since expanded across décor, bed and bath, tabletop accessories and other categories.
In 2019, he opened his own store in Potts Point, Sydney, creating a dedicated retail expression of the studio’s aesthetic. His products are also available through retailers including David Jones, Bergdorf Goodman and Lane Crawford.

Natale founded his studio in Sydney in 2001, quickly embracing bold pattern and colour. Drawing on Modernism, Mid-Century design and his Italian heritage, his work developed an expressive sensibility.
Natale’s decorative approach to interiors has become central to the studio’s identity. There is nothing bland about a Greg Natale project and his clients and the wider global community love his style.
While the business of design has exponentially grown for Natale, at the core of the studio is the man himself who conceives and creates. Natale continues to lead the work closely, bringing his distinct eye to a prolific body of projects for both longstanding and new clients.

In Australia, that work spans mansions, penthouses and residences across urban, coastal and rural settings. Internationally, the studio’s portfolio now includes townhouses in the UK and the USA, a country home in Oklahoma, a multi-residential development currently underway in Athens and a penthouse apartment in Florence. Founded in Australia, where its head office remains, Greg Natale Design has become a global practice while retaining the sensibility of its founder.

Today, Natale is embarking on one of his most ambitious projects to date, the expansion of his headquarters on a new landmark site in Darlinghurst, Sydney. His team of 20 will be based within a heritage Georgian garage. The development, spanning six levels, will house his studio, flagship boutique and private penthouse residence, with construction set to commence in 2027.
Natale has been widely published across the design press, authored three books — one with Hardie Grant Books Australia and two with Rizzoli New York — and is regularly invited to speak at events and contribute as a juror to awards programs. Yet the focus of his practice has remained consistent: to create excellent design and push the boundaries of expectations.

At a time when pared-back minimalism, white-on-white palettes and the absence of decoration dominated the design conversation, Natale pursued a more layered and distinctive language. Rather than being led by fashion, he has often worked against it, and when layered interiors were definitely not on trend, this designer made the decorative desirable.

After 25 years, Natale’s influence is difficult to miss. His work has helped bring beauty, comfort and pattern back into the centre of contemporary interiors, shaping both client homes and the wider design conversation.
