It’s been an extraordinary ten years of exemplary projects from Studio Tate, and accolades go to Alex Hopkins and the team for an exemplar decade.

It’s a milestone in anyone’s book and Studio Tate recently celebrated its tenth anniversary in Melbourne in spectacular style. Surrounded by friends, colleagues, collaborators and clients, the Studio Tate team led by the dynamic Alex Hopkins provided the perfect place for the celebration – a recent project, the beautiful SMA Projects Display Suite at 84 Johnston Street, Fitzroy.

Founded in 2014, Studio Tate is a design force to be reckoned with, exponentially growing over the past decade and now with a large portfolio of completed projects. Guided by a philosophy of inclusivity and empowerment, Studio Tate has established a reputation for a supportive, non-hierarchical culture, driven by a team of some 20 dedicated professionals, including a dynamic, female-led leadership team.

The studio works across many genres from single and multi-residential, workplace, retail, education, hospitality and wellness, and the practice brings its own particular magic to every commission.

Studio Tate also gives back and supports community with its pro bono work that has helped change and enrich the lives of others. As a mid-size practice, it punches above its weight with its community-driven projects and is to be applauded for all that has been achieved.

There have been many defining projects from the studio, The Melbournian I, II and III, Malvern Residence II, Mecca, Riverlee, PDG, Pincho Disco, Toby’s Estate, Ena Pelly, Relinque Urban Retreat, Beauthentica, Burnet Institute and Eva Tilley Memorial Home, to name but a few. Along with pro bono projects, CASA House, Centre Against Sexual Assault, The Royal Women’s Hospital Foundation, Neonatal Intensive can Unit (NICU) and Jean Hailes, For Women’s Health, it’s obvious that the studio has been very busy.

Studio Tate comprises talented and passionate designers that are dedicated to best practice that results in stellar design outcomes. The aesthetic is pared back elegance and projects are always site appropriate and client specific. Each concept is detailed and layered and there is always deep thinking to achieve exciting outcomes.

Speaking of the anniversary of the practice, Alex Hopkins says, “Celebrating 10 years of Studio Tate feels like a testament to our collective passion and perseverance. I am immensely proud of our team’s commitment to inclusivity and creativity, which has driven us to deliver meaningful, impactful designs. Looking ahead, I envision Studio Tate continuing to grow, taking on projects that challenge and inspire, and nurturing a culture where every voice is valued and empowered.”
