My Canvas showcases global cross-disciplinary design

Kvadrat Maharam has curated a collection of one-off installation pieces, made by a bevvy of international designers, for an installation as part of Melbourne Design Week.

My Canvas is an installation that was formed after Kvadrat invited designers to create art pieces using its Canvas textile. Initially launched at London Design Festival in 2017, Melbourne has been fortunate to display seven of the works.

The Canvas textile, designed by Giulio Ridolfo, who has been collaborating with Kvadrat for 13 years, became the single departure point for the global mix of designers. Each designer has taken a vastly different and creative approach, but as a collection, the only continual thread is, in fact, the fabric used.

The exhibition showcases the talent of a global, cross-disciplinary design approach.

On display for Melbourne Design Week, the nine pieces include:

Christien Meindertsma (Netherlands) with Pigeon Service

Atelier Max Lipsey (Netherlands) with Woven Bench

My Canvas for Kvadrat

Maria Jeglinska (Poland) with Background(s)

BCXSY (Netherlands) with Catwalk Bench

GamFratesi (Denmark) with MASK

Butternutten AG (Germany) with The Principles of Hiding

Teruhiro Yanagihara (Japan) with Gravity

To launch the installation, Kvadrat Maharam threw a special lunch, followed by an opening exhibition. Emma Elizabeth helped curate and install the exhibition along with styling for the events, while Cecelia Fox made a beautiful floral table display.
