Fashion festival season is almost upon us and this year a consortium of design, property and construction firms is putting its support behind First Nations designers on the Urban Oasis Runway at PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival.
February 22nd, 2023
“Events like Urban Oasis are a wonderful platform for celebrating diversity and highlighting the impressive talents of our First Nations designers,” says Architectus‘ Ruth Wilson, principal for clients and communications. Architectus is a returning sponsor of the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival First Nations Program, alongside ADP Consulting, MPA, and Slattery.
As part of that program is the Urban Oasis Runway, a key event which highlights the creativity and craftsmanship of leading and emerging First Nations designers. These designers share the spotlight with established and renegade street and conceptual designers from around Australia, exploring ideas of identity, social enterprise, politics, upcycling, and customisation.
The runway marks the debut of emerging designers and design labels Amber Days and Yanggurdi, and will also feature mainstays such as Haus of Dizzy and Moss Tunstall.
The runway event is a natural extension of the consortium’s involvement in last year’s festival, with Architectus, Brookfield Properties, MPA and Slattery supporting the 2022 festival’s First Nations Program featuring the First Nations Runway and KIN Fashion Exhibition.
As Wilson states, “Events like Urban Oasis are a wonderful platform for celebrating diversity and highlighting the impressive talents of our First Nations designers. We can’t wait to see the creations on show at this year’s festival.”
The Urban Oasis Runway presented by Architectus, ADP Consulting, MPA and Slattery will be held at 7pm, Friday 9 March at the Royal Exhibition Building, on Wurundjeri Country.
