One Plus Partnership’s latest cinema project is further proof of the changing face of movie entertainment.
February 25th, 2015
Given the increasingly sophisticated expectations of moviegoers, cinema chains are coming to discover that designing an entire movie experience is now a crucial factor in the business of entertainment.
And perhaps there’s no local firm more experienced in creating these ‘new-generation’ environments for entertainment than One Plus Partnership, which has already completed such high-profile projects as Tianjin Insun Lotte Cinema, Wuhan Pixel Box Cinema, and UA Cine Times, Times Square.
In their latest cinema project, Coastal Cinema, the firm has taken the “Coastal” theme and distilled it down to a more abstract, elegant form. Here, the interior is inspired by coastal geography, and the study of the dynamic interface between the ocean and land, particularly the action of waves breaking onto shore.
The gigantic lobby takes on a curvy, wave-like form, further mirrored by powder-coated metal rods. The ticketing office is shaped like natural stones, blending in with the surroundings. The floors and ceiling decorations also maintain the waveform theme.
Aside from the cinema, One Plus Partnership was responsible for the design of the Coastal Coffee café and the Coastal Private Club. The latter contains many hidden waveform messages: metal walls are cut to illustrate waveforms of a rough sea, while stripe patterns on the carpet appear at varying intervals, simulating the ever-changing waveform movements that are affected by wind speed and directions.
