A spectacular new furniture release is here. With a recent launch event in Sydney, gohome is celebrating the new collection of lounges, ottomans and tables created by award-winning designer, Ben McCarthy.
April 24th, 2023
Furniture design studio and manufacturer gohome has launched the Club Lounging Collection, which includes single, 2.5- and 3-seater lounges, a range of pill-shaped ottomans and an all-wood laptop/side table. Adaptability is at the heart of the collection as the lounges come with or without privacy screens, while the ottomans are available in various configurations.
The inspiration for the design is derived from the atmosphere of old speakeasies and lounges, evoking cosiness and the right environment for comfortable conversation. The historic typology of the ‘club chair’ is at the root of this inspiration. Soft, voluminous shapes are also what define the atmosphere and the design setting.
“I wanted to design a sofa system that’s adaptable, comfortable and versatile,” explains McCarthy. “Something you can work in, chat in, relax in. It was extremely important we have a system that lends itself to various formats and environments. The design is based on soft shapes framed by bold wood legs.
“The layout of the legs provides a strong platform to mount upholstered shapes, and create various arrangements of the sofas as well as an ottoman which can be adapted into various configurations.”
The general softness and cosiness is also offset by sharper lines and surfaces: “We were able to push the upholstery process to achieve crisp lines toward the front and bottom edge of the backrest which helps frame the sofa and mount the high screen,” McCarthy says.

Privacy screens act as bolt-ons for the lounges, enabling transformation from an open, collaborative chair into a more focused space.
McCarthy explains the design process further: “Technically, we went to a lot of effort and detail in making the shapes and details look simple. Starting from very wide and low configurations to find the right geometry for the home or office functionality while exploring the grey area of formal or informal, which is how most of us want to work now in a post pandemic world.”
The Club Lounging Collection also provides for a wide range of choices in terms of materials. Various wood species and stains are possible with the legs, for example, while upholstery can be achieved in most fabrics or leather.
The new collection is designed for use in both commercial and residential settings, marking a stylish new level of furniture in Australia thanks to collaboration between Ben McCarthy and gohome.
