Melbourne’s new Convention Centre to the greenest in Australia
January 24th, 2008
Premier John Brumby has recently announced the Green Building Council of Australia’s decision to award a 6-Star Green Star rating for the new Convention Centre.
Environmental features include sustainable solutions for both water and light. Solar panels will deliver all public amenity hot water requirements and a black-water recycling plant will recycle water to supply toilets, cooling towers and irrigate landscapes. Energy-saving controls will be installed on lighting, and some fixtures will adjust depending on the amount of daylight detected in the room.
The design was put through a rigorous process to achieve the rating, and has set a new global standard for convention centres, the Premier calling it “a landmark building in Melbourne’s developing landscape”.
