Independent hotel brand Ovolo Hotels has hit Sydney with two new branded hotel properties in Woolloomooloo and Pyrmont.
January 28th, 2016
The Ovolo Hotels brand brings together a technology-driven take on modern travel, with an aesthetic and design that captures the essences of local life.
“Since 2002, we’ve been on a mission to redefine modern hospitality by creating new and intuitive concepts that deliver from the customers’ point of view,” says founder Girish Jhunjhnuwala. “It’s an honour to now own and operate two of the most iconic landmarks in the great city of Sydney. What we hope for, is that Australians and world travellers alike will take the chance to experience what defines the Ovolo touch.”
Ovolo Hotels’ new Sydney hotels are in Woolloomooloo and Pyrmont and have been designed to foster communal engagement among guests, centering on the Lo Lounges, available across all of its properties. At the Lo Lounge, hotel guests are able to work, relax and enjoy all day service of snacks, free coffee and drinks.
Hassell were instrumental in the transformation of Ovolo Woolloomooloo. Just as the wharf’s rich history contrasts with the city it calls home, the design juxtaposes old and new, light and dark, coastal and urban.
“We transformed the vast, central space into a laneway featuring a series of ‘pavilions’ and an avenue of trees. These all help to break up and lighten a previously dark, cold space, making it a more comfortable place to spend time while never compromising the building’s unique architecture. These pavilions house the reception area, a bar, a library and private dining areas to give the hotel its strong sense of identity,” says Matthew Sheargold, Hassell’s Senior Associate and Ovolo project leader.
The two newest Ovolo Hotels in Sydney are the first for the city following the successful Ovolo Laneways in Melbourne. Ovolo also has a series of hotels in Hong Kong (see our story on Ovolo Southside).
