The Pale Rose Collection: Louis Poulsen’s lighting icons in full bloom

In the newly released collection from Louis Poulsen, some of Poul Henningsen and Vilhelm Lauritzen’s most iconic designs get a flourishing makeover in a delightfully elegant pale rose colourway.

The complete Pale Rose collection

Within the Pale Rose Collection, some of Louis Poulsen’s most quintessential pendants and table lamps have been reimagined in a stunning combination of mouth-blown pale rose glass and brushed brass. This exquisite pairing exudes the notion of fresh modernity and warm elegance, while honouring the interplay between light and shade that permeated the practice of the great Danish design masters.

The revisited designs of the PH 3/2 Pale Rose Table Lamp and the petite PH 2/1 Pale Rose Table Lamp – a more compact incarnation of the original – see their distinctive pale rose shades sandblasted white underneath to create a gentle glow. These exquisite glass sculptures are supported by unpolished brushed brass frames designed to patinate beautifully over time.

Similarly, both the classic PH 3½-3 Pale Rose Pendant and the more industrial PH 3/3 Pale Rose Pendant mimic the same materiality and lighting principles. Here, too, the fine hairlines of the brushed brass finish follow the form of the fixture, while its handcrafted character exemplifies the unique nature of each object. The spherical VL 45 Pale Rose Pendant, on the other hand, honours Lauritzen’s original 1940s design, while the new colourway brings the inconspicuous luminaire in line with contemporary trends.

Another quintessential pendant, the PH Artichoke Pale Rose, also pays a loving homage to its iconic predecessor. When Henningsen first designed PH Artichoke in 1958, the light had a pale rose hue on the inside of each leaf. Now, each of the 72 leaves is finished in a soft, elegant pink hue that gently accentuates the light’s uniquely sculptural expression, while producing warm, pleasant light.

Lastly, crowning the curvature of the PH 2/2 Question Mark Pale Rose Table Lamp’s stem-like frame, the pale rose coloured glass shades fold over the base gently, conjuring up an allusive visual of a flower folding itself up for the night.

To celebrate the launch, Louis Poulsen created an immersive virtual hotel experience that enables the viewers to explore the new colourway in an unexpected way. Called The Louis, the space boasts five levels of meticulously curated teal interiors, starting with a ground level Lobby and going all the way up to the Level 4 Restaurant.

Each level is presented as a vignette highlighting designs from the collection. As the visitors explore the conceptual space at their own pace, they are welcomed by the grounding presence of the PH Artichoke Pale Rose in the Lobby, drawn into the intimate ambience of the Powder Room with the allure of the PH 3/3 Pale Rose Pendant and PH 3/2 Table Lamp – and mesmerised by the gentle glow of the VL 45 Pale Rose Pendants, that juxtapose the fuzzy turquoise interior of the Bar.

While the conceptual experience is a captivating way to explore the new collection virtually, Louis Poulsen is also organising a pop up at the gather café, which forms part of the Raffles Hotel Arcade Singapore. In partnership with Grafunkt and XTRA, the Pale Rose Pop-Up will take place on the 18th of August 2023 and will be open to the public, giving design aficionados a chance to witness the floral charm of the new Pale Rose Collection first-hand.
