Thanks to Malaysian developer UEM Sunrise, which is collaborating with Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) on a residential project in Melbourne, an exhibition of the studio’s work is being shown at Marina Bay Sands’ ArtScience Museum.
With sketches, photographs and 3D-printed resin models, the exhibition showcases a range of ZHA’s work spanning 40 years. The star attraction, of course, is UEM Sunrise’s Mayfair condominium project, which has been designed for a site in Melbourne by ZHA and Australian firm Elenberg Fraser.
Says Michele Pasca di Magliano, Associate Director at ZHA (and Project Director behind the d’Leedon residential complex in Singapore): “We are honoured to present our work at ArtScience Museum… We hope that with our selection of seminal projects, visitors will develop a greater understanding of the remarkable possibilities offered by architecture and design, and learn more about the Zaha Hadid design story that is fundamentally driven by inventiveness and imagination.”
During a media event to launch the exhibition, di Magliano spoke about a range of ZHA’s projects against a stunning backdrop of video images projected perfectly onto the inner surface of one of the ArtScience Museum’s ‘petals’ – quite the technical feat, and a refreshing use of the architecture.
He spoke about how ZHA thinks of the city as an organism; about ZHA’s use of its own internally developed software; about how buildings can become communication tools; and about the studio’s intent to connect the residential block of Mayfair with the life of Melbourne city.
The exhibition is being presented in conjunction with Luxx Newhouse Group, and will travel to Melbourne next. Read our feature on its KL showing here. Admission is free, but visitors must register for admission to one of two timed sessions per day (10am to 2pm, and 2pm to 7pm). Head to reimagining-architecture.com to register.
