Pomelo gives Singapore first peeks at the Osso chair fresh off its Milan debut, and unveils products from Established & Sons – all at its new showroom during Saturday in Design!
May 12th, 2011
In 2007, young couple Raymond and Karina Quah made a decidedly bold move by opening up a retail store in the living room of their brand new home. The decision was sparked by their inability to find furnishings they liked in Singapore, and their love for design.
Approaching brands such as Modernica, Blu Dot and Emeco to distribute their products here, they called their new venture Pomelo.
Since then, the small ’store within a home’ has kept quietly going largely through word-of-mouth.

This year, however, Pomelo is taking a big leap forward with the launch of a full-fledged showroom in Chinatown, and an exclusive Singapore distributorship for Established & Sons – all to be officially unveiled at Saturday in Design!

Pomelo will also be flying in Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec’s Osso chair for Mattiazzi, just off the Milan fair, specially for the event.

Raymond says that Pomelo will continue to bring in brands that it thinks deserve representation and recognition here.
“We carry smaller brands like Semigood – which makes furniture using traditional methods of carpentry and solid wood, and where each piece is still crafted by hand, and Mattiazzi – which has been quietly making chairs for the past 30 years for the top Italian brands,” says Raymond.
“Mattiazzi has recently been designing its own collections and I’m predicting it will be HUGE in a few years.”

Raymond is also excited to be bringing in Established & Sons, which he describes as having “a very unique and distinct voice”.
“First and foremost, they consider themselves a design company. Not a furniture company. Not a home furnishings brand. That’s what I love about them.”
