Fintona Girl’s school is an independent school in Melbourne, catering for around 600 students from the Early Learning Centre through to Year 12. Its brand-new Beyond Science Centre opened its doors for classes in 2021 and is a case in point for innovative educational design – especially when it comes to the inspirational role of furniture in the classroom. VE Furniture creates a stunningly flexible and innovative environment ready to inspire young minds in STEM.
Every one of the furniture selections made for this space contribute to the overall atmosphere of support, ingenuity and curiosity. Adaptable, semi-industrial furniture has transformed the state-of-the-art lab spaces, flexible learning classrooms, breakout spaces and staff meeting rooms into hubs of connectivity which transcend learning, collaboration and relaxation.
The calm, contemporary aesthetic is accentuated with a relaxed neutral colour palette to create a warm, friendly space which inspires possibility and engagement.
The star of the show is without a doubt the Shinto flexible desk system. This Japanese-inspired modular marvel can be used for tables, desks, benching, workstations and more.
The Shinto workstation operates at the height of collaborative prowess, giving individuals the power to build and shape their own workstation with essentially infinite possibilities. It is the perfect match for the Beyond Science centre, encouraging exactly the kind of forward-thinking innovation and curiosity that will see Fintona’s girls excel in their STEM studies.
The Maker Space is fitted with custom designed mobile workbenches up to 900mm high. They are designed to encourage an inclusive culture by supporting practical and theoretical collaborative activities. For extra flexibility, the Kayu Stools are paired with the mobile workbenches to create a sense of familiarity and cohesion throughout the building.
The lightweight practicality of VE Furniture’s Kayu Stools offer a sensible and comfortable seating option which is easy to clean and store. The warm Rubberwood tones compliment the cool blues of the Beyond Science labs, keeping the space feeling friendly and inviting.
For the Beyond Science Centre VE Furniture has delivered a single aesthetic while still accommodating multiple learning styles. Its Shinto table system crosses boundaries between high benches, linear tables, workstations and round meeting tables to provide a straightforward, cohesive finish in multiple surface options. The design and development of the Shinto table system espouses exactly the type of innovation, exploration and experimentation that quality science depends on. And what better way to encourage creative thinking than to fill a space with its practical examples?
