Richard Simpson’s timber creation for Treólogy has impressed the judges at New Zealand’s Best Design Awards
October 24th, 2012
Treólogy is the brainchild of Davies Furniture CEO Andrew Davies, keen to see their respected New Zealand manufacturing business compete ably on the international design scene.
’We saw beautiful products being made for top tier global markets such as the US and knew we had the ability to play the same game. Our quality and attention to detail already existed, what we needed was a new brand and some great product” says Andrew.
Established with the intent to produce pieces that would stand apart in a crowded market, Davies engaged designer Richard Simpson to create a seat that would contribute something unique to the local design landscape rather than meet a trend or emulate styles.
The judges at the 2012 Good Design Awards were, understandably, of the opinion that this approach had been more than fruitful, describing the Umber Chair as:
“…an iconic, beautifully proportioned and elegantly constructed piece of timber furniture that has the potential to go on to become New Zealand design ’classic.’
