Hogg & Lamb’s Albion Bathhouse has been awarded The Health & Wellbeing Space at the INDE.Awards 2025. The project reimagines the contemporary bathhouse as an immersive architectural journey – one that restores balance through atmosphere, materiality and mindful design.

The INDE.Awards are the most prestigious architecture and design accolades across the Indo-Pacific region, celebrating projects that challenge convention and elevate the human experience. Each year, they honour visionary works that demonstrate how design can shape not only the spaces we inhabit but also the way we feel within them.

Now in its 2025 edition, the INDE.Awards continue to highlight the transformative power of design across diverse typologies from workplaces and homes to cultural, educational and wellbeing environments. Among this year’s standout winners, Albion Bathhouse by Hogg & Lamb has been named The Health & Wellbeing Space Winner, in partnership with Milliken. This category honours spaces that place human health, comfort and emotional wellbeing at the centre of design innovation.

Located in Brisbane, Albion Bathhouse is conceived as an immersive retreat; a sanctuary where architecture and atmosphere merge to nurture both body and mind. At its heart lies a sequence of thermal experiences: steam rooms, saunas, flotation spaces and three pools of varying temperatures, each designed to deepen sensory awareness and relaxation.

Within the central chamber, silver travertine and textured surfaces catch the flicker of subdued light, creating the sensation of a firelit cave. A glowing hearth anchors the room, a primal centrepiece around which stillness and reflection are encouraged. The effect is at once grounding and transcendent, inviting visitors to disconnect from the pace of modern life and sink into the present moment.

Hogg & Lamb’s design is defined by its precision and restraint. Movement through the Bathhouse is carefully choreographed: guests progress through warm, cool, and neutral zones in a meditative rhythm that heightens bodily perception. Light, temperature, and aroma shift subtly across spaces, guiding a psychological as well as physical journey toward restoration.

Every surface contributes to the sensory narrative. Stone, water and fire form a palette that is elemental yet sophisticated, while the controlled material honesty, free from excess or ornamentation, reflects a belief in architecture as a quiet enabler of wellbeing. In this way, the project transcends spa design to become a study in atmosphere, emotion and equilibrium.

Through Albion Bathhouse, Hogg & Lamb demonstrate how architecture can facilitate profound human renewal. The project stands as a reminder that the built environment has the capacity not only to house activity but to heal. Engaging the senses, slowing the mind and fostering calm through spatial awareness and design integrity.

As The Health & Wellbeing Space Winner at the INDE.Awards 2025, the Albion Bathhouse embodies the ideals of holistic, human-centred architecture. It is both a destination and a state of mind where every element, from the glow of the pools to the stillness of stone, speaks to the art of restoration through design.
