A sustainable office chair that works for all

Dauphin’s new ergonomic swivel chair Indeed aims to bring comfort, sustainability and lightness to the office as well as the desk at home.

A sustainable office chair that works for all

Over the last two years, the rise of remote working has seen work life encroach into the home, and vice versa, bringing with it a whole new set of design concerns. In this hybrid landscape, domestic comfort must be balanced with productivity, flexibility with reliability, and functionality with aesthetics.

Under these conditions, office furniture is evolving. What once seemed perfectly suitable in a traditional workspace, now may seem out of place in the home-office environment. More than ever, furniture should fit into different environments while dynamically adapting to the needs of the user. It should be durable, sustainable and functional, yet not appear overtly utilitarian. One new chair design satisfies the aspirations of a new generation – the Indeed by Dauphin.

Designed in-house by Rüdiger Schaack, Dauphin’s Indeed is a high-quality swivel chair that not only achieves the highest of ergonomic standards, but with its refined lightweight construction and slender design also brings a light touch to any workspace – at home or the office.

With Indeed, Schaack was guided by the principle: “One chair design for all”. The goal was to create a chair for everyone, not just in terms of ergonomics, but also in its overall design and aesthetic. Each element of the Indeed swivel chair conveys a sense of lightness and cohesion. Subtle clear edges, the smooth transition from the backrest bar to the backrest frame, the broken mesh structure of the lordosis pad – all these details come together to form a slender silhouette that slots easily into many different interiors.

The Indeed’s understated design belies its wealth of ergonomic features. The Indeed adapts to all ergonomic needs with features like the height-adjustable backrest with optional Ergo neckrest, seat-tilt adjustment of the entire upper part of the chair, and the Syncro-Evolution® mechanism which makes it possible to easily adjust the backrest counterpressure at the side. In addition, the three-dimensionally yielding backrest keeps the body from ‘parking’ on the chair, enabling a dynamic way of sitting that keeps the body fit and moving.

A testament to its ergonomic sophistication, the Indeed has been awarded the world-renowned ‘Tested & Recommended’ seal of quality from Aktion Gesunder Rücken (AGR) (Campaign for Healthier Backs). Recently, the new Dauphin chair was announced as a winner in the German Design Awards 2022, further celebrating the Indeed’s harmonious design and attention to detail.

A chair for everyone must also reflect the desire of many to live sustainably. To make the chair easy to handle and conserve resources during production, Dauphin utilised an intelligent lightweight construction method, which has made the Indeed 20% lighter in comparison to similar chairs. Reducing the number of individual components in the final design has the added benefit of facilitating quick assembly. In Indeed’s case, it can be fully assembled within two minutes without using tools.

Indeed’s materials and packaging continue the eco-friendly theme. The ‘Tonal fabric’ used for the cover is 99% made from recycled PET bottles and, thanks to its positive environmental footprint, has been awarded the Oeko-Tex certificate and the EU Ecolabel. The use of space-saving cardboard boxes during transportation reduces the volume of packaging by up to 60%, which means the loading capacities of delivery trucks can be increased while reducing CO2 emissions.

With Indeed, Dauphin displays its commitment to delivering human-centric solutions that satisfy the demands of modern work. The Indeed chair is available in two different backrest options, with a mesh fabric cover or with a closed plastic shell, as well as a broad selection of colors, opening up design possibilities both in the office and at home.
