N01, by Japanese studio Nendo for Fritz Hansen, is a modern chair for the design and quality-conscious home, now available from Cult.
All of Nendo’s designs represent the purity and consideration of contemporary Japanese design aesthetics, and the N01 is no exception – but comes with a twist. Created by the merging of Nendo’s iconic Japanese design sensibilities and the Danish aesthetics and craftsmanship of Fritz Hansen, N01 brings back nature and embraces today’s modern life.
In the modern home, the dining room is not only a place to enjoy a meal, it also serves as a place to be productive, to converse with family and friends, and a place to relax after a busy workday or just everyday life.
With N01, Nendo represents a design language that both complements the Fritz Hansen design DNA and at the same time challenges it with a new take on working with genuine craftsmanship.
The new chair sees a seat and a back designed with nine layers of veneer – a characteristic iconic to the Fritz Hansen stacking chair collection. The base however is a pure and elegant interpretation of solid wood – a Nendo trademark.
Nendo’s acclaimed attention to detail is present in every centimetre of the chair, which fits with the table when placed around it in a dining room setting. N01 is an honest design that tells the story of the warmth of wood and of uncompromising quality – and the story of cross cultural design conversations.
Visually, the N01 is a geometric playground. All vertical lines of its design are conic, thicker in the middle than at the ends, while every horizontal line is a neat straight line. This furthers the design aesthetic of the chair serving as a conversation between two different yet harmonious design ideals.
“If you sit on it, you will notice that this is a Fritz Hansen chair. If you live with it, you will realise that this is pure Japanese design,” says Oki Sato of Nendo.
The N01 chair is now available to Australian design lovers from Cult.
