Modern Twill in Taupe Grey

In Australia’s design industry, Godfrey Hirst is a revered name. From humble origins in Geelong, the brand has grown and developed on its 160-year journey which – despite global expansion – has unwaveringly stayed a course of quality, authenticity, and reliability. To celebrate their 160th year, Godfrey Hirst have released a new carpet tile collection, with pieces that weave past and future together in an ode to craftsmanship and manufacturing excellence; giving architects, designers, and end-users a chance to embed local design history into their commercial fitouts.
Heritage Loom Collection
The Heritage Loom Collection is a design-led carpet plank range comprising two products: Modern Twill and French Tweed. Drawing on Godfrey Hirst’s deep-rooted history in textile production, the collection references iconic fabric construction techniques, but reinterprets these for contemporary commercial interiors.
Designed and made in Australia, the collection instantly speaks to Godfrey Hirst’s origins, with their story and journey embedded in every loom. From their start in 1865 with the Victorian Woollen and Cloth Manufacturing Company, to pioneering the craft of carpet manufacturing in 1966, their long-established passion for quality materials and thoughtful production has informed the new collection, recalling a bygone era where the craftsman reigned supreme.
Each of the two designs captures the spirit of this era, paying homage to twill and tweed while reimagining them through new colourways and textures. Historically inspired and locally produced, the collection is not just a manifestation of Godfrey Hirst’s past but a look into their future, reinforcing their commitment to creating products that are high performing and durable as well as innovative and beautiful.
Modern Twill
The colours themselves are intricate and layered, with tonal hues that play out across the woven fabrics. In Modern Twill, varied colourways are brought to life through a warm weaving pattern that has both the strength and the timeless appeal of traditional twill fabrics. Complete with a distinctive flecked pattern and a mottled surface, the range is deep and tactile, and promises to wear well as the years (and foot traffic) go by. Perfect for bringing warmth and depth to an interior space, the colourways span the neutral (Stone Grey and Peppermill), the contemporary (Steel Blue and Taupe Grey), and the traditional (Chino and Walnut), with 12 different options set to compliment interiors of any typology.
French Tweed
Inspired by one of the most iconic materials in textiles, French Tweed is simultaneously sophisticated and surprising. Crafted through a refined cut and loop pile construction, the rich texture and evocative finish of the product is reminiscent of woven cloth, and brings an elevated feel to interior spaces. Like a fine piece of tailoring, the French Tweed product has both structure and softness, and reveals more depth and complexity the longer it is looked at. Available in six colours, this modern interpretation of European textile tradition crafted for its exquisiteness, built for commercial performance.
Over 160 years, Godfrey Hirst has grown to be featured in interior spaces around the globe, bringing their signature quality to some of the world’s most beautiful commercial fitouts. Despite this success, their commitment to their craft has never wavered, nor has their appreciation for local design and manufacturing. Their new collection echoes this story, cleverly reimagining some of history’s favourite fabrications into floor coverings for the interiors of today. Unique yet universal in their appeal, the collection weaves together past and present, celebrating 160 years of Godfrey Hirst in a range that is deeply authentic
