The Australian Architecture Association explores Le Corbusier’s Ronchamp Chapel and its captivating design history over the past six decades.
Architecture and design possess the power to constantly surprise and astound you. Every project has its own history – a narrative that is uniquely distinct and excitingly controversial that is set to inspire and engage people and communities collectively.
Ronchamp Chapel by Le Corbusier is one of the 20th century’s most significant buildings. Completed in 1955, Ronchamp Chapel was built as a Catholic Church, representing the compelling, rigorous and wonderfully radical brilliance of the mind of Le Corbusier. This building is an architectural spectacle, with many unaware of the creative excellence radiating through the structure.
In association with Architecture & Design, the Australian Architecture Association (AAA) will present the first in its series of talks, called ‘Iconic Buildings of the 20th Century.’ Hosted by Brickworks Studio, on Thursday 20 June 2019, architect Tone Wheeler and the President of the Australian Architecture Association will explore the story being the geometric forms and textures in depth of Ronchamp Chapel.
“We will acquaint ourselves with the history, and then do an analysis of Le Corbusier’s design thinking, his ideas and concepts that gave rise to the form, and we will thoroughly crawl over every part of the building,” says Wheeler.
An extraordinary result of a meticulous process and an attitude to challenge and push the boundaries of what we thought we knew about architecture and design, the story of Le Corbusier’s Ronchamp Chapel needs to be known.
Don’t miss on this excitingly controversial ‘behind the scenes take’ on this work of art and architecture by Le Corbusier.
