Designers and design lovers alike were out in full force at Mossgreen Gallery, Woollhara to celebrate the launch of Yulparitja, a Designer Rugs range designed by the Indigenous Bidyadanga people of Western Australia.
The range celebrates the Bidyadanga community and Yulparija people, recalling the 1999 artistic revelation of Daniel Walbidi, and the design community in turn celebrated the range at an exclusive party in Designer Rugs’ Sydney showroom.
Working with a range of Bidyadanga artists was a moving experience for the design team at Designer Rugs. With extraordinary simplicity, the artists manage to challenge the viewer’s perception of desert landscapes, while also bringing to light the complex issues relating to the impact of white settlement on the lives of Indigenous Australians.
Designer Rugs was honoured to have been given the opportunity to interpret the work these artists to create this vibrant series, and we were all thrilled to see the range close up, chat with the design team, and celebrate the launch of a truly brilliant handknot rug collection.
