The properties owned by the City will now be offered in a competitive application process to non-profits and community groups that work within the social services, cultural and environmental areas.

The accommodation grants program currently supports 69 organisations across 46 Sydney City-managed sites, including a men’s shed, a junior football club and an artists’ collective.

“The City is always seeking good ideas from local community-based organisations on how to put our under-used or empty spaces to good use,” says Lord Mayor Clover Moore “We have improved the online grant application process and we expect interest to be very high for this round of accommodation grants, with the Walter Burley Griffin incinerator on the Glebe foreshore and space at Waterloo Town Hall available again.”

Successful community groups applying are typically those that can deliver social, cultural and environmental outcomes for the City of Sydney community.

The Festivalists, a non-profit company that delivers cultural events, such as film festivals, was granted space in Erskineville Town Hall last year.

“Moving into the town hall as part of a City of Sydney accommodation grant has been been a fantastic opportunity for our non-profit, as our budgets are limited but our ambitions needed room to grow,” Festivalists Director Matt Ravier said “Having more space allowed us to recruit more staff and run an internship program.”

The latest properties the city include spaces in Glebe, Waterloo, Millers Point, and Woolloomooloo.
