The Design Institute of Australia has announced the Overall Winner of the Australasian Student Design Awards 2010.

NSW Design Centre Enmore student Carol Faulkner’s Fashion Design was selected from the 9 category winners and over 140 entries to take the top spot of Overall Winner.

“The consistently high standard of design work reflected in the majority of these entries spoke to the impressive standards being set in student work across the board and across multiple disciplines,” said DIA Director and ASDA Program Convenor Geoff Fitzpatrick

Mrs. K’s Exotic Fruit, the title of Faulkner’s design, was inspired by the 1950’s science fiction classic ‘The Martian Chronicles’.

The gown was constructed entirely of some 10,000 cable ties, a thermo plastic material that can be recycled at the end of its life.

“Winning the inaugural Fashion category of the Australasian Student Design Awards was an unexpected and thrilling experience,’ exclaimed Faulkner.

“To have my work acknowledged by my peers and recognised with the Award of Excellence is a huge honour. I am happy to have been able to communicate my concept with a wider audience and share a project that I thoroughly enjoyed from beginning to end.”
