The award-winning designer and architect designs a villa for a Hong Kong property developer’s Aberdeen development, working with Giorgetti to create an ultra-luxurious space. Tamsin Bradshaw takes a tour.

Designer and architect Steve Leung recently completed an elegant showhouse for K.Wah International Holdings Limited’s Marinella Ocean Collection, taking high-end Italian brand Giorgetti as the starting point for the home’s theme. “Our team chose three styles with three different brands as the design theme,” says Steve Leung, who runs longstanding design practice Steve Leung Designers. “The client chose Giorgetti as their favourite. The villa is therefore designed with an Italian Giorgetti style with an accent on its branded furniture and arc-shaped adornment.”
The villa is part of Marinella, located at 9 Welfare Road, Aberdeen. It is one of a series of Garden House Units that form part of Marinella’s Ocean Collection, benefitting from views of water and sailing vessels, thanks to its location opposite the Aberdeen Marina Club and Aberdeen Boat Club.
“The clients hoped the interior would connect with the surrounding scenery,” says Leung. “They also emphasised use of space and materials in the house.”
With this in mind, Leung’s team sourced refined materials such as fine-grained marble, smoky glass and luxurious rosewood – taking their cues, of course, from Giorgetti, whose cabinetmaking origins have given it a rich tradition in woodwork. The Italian brand, which is available in Hong Kong through ViA, began life in 1898 with a focus on cabinetmaking. Today, artisanal skills are still a core part of its modus operandi: craftsmen are involved with carving solid pieces of walnut and other carefully sourced, quality woods into curvy shapes that feel smooth to the touch.
The wood specialist beautifully balances traditional forms with contemporary style; a look and feel that Leung has brought into the design for this Marinella Villa. Rounded walls and bookshelves echo the curves of Giorgetti’s furniture – something that is mirrored again in the furniture itself, much of which comes from Giorgetti.
The use of colour and surfaces also reflects Giorgetti’s design aesthetic, with a blend of creamy ivory tones and warm browns, and the juxtaposition of glossy rosewood with matte leather creating a home with depth and dimension.
“We wanted to transform this three-storey villa into an elegant yet stylish abode and a sophisticated residence to fulfill the user’s everyday needs,” says Leung. “Surrounded by scenic views, this villa creates a relaxing and prestigious enjoyment to the owners, bringing them an extraordinary living experience.”
