Founded by German master cabinetmaker Friedemir Poggenpohl in 1892, Poggenpohl has been at the forefront of kitchen design for the last two centuries, winning many awards and fans for its ingenuity.
December 19th, 2008
With Poggenhol’s original mission to “improve the kitchen” constantly in mind, the company has continually progressed and improved kitchen design, ensuring the highest standards in fittings and construction.
They have pioneered the use of new materials and technologies by always testing the boundaries of functional everyday objects.
In 1928, Poggenpohl introduced the ‘Reform Kitchen’ with its connecting units and integrated storage space, then, in 1950, the ‘Form 1000’ was introduced as the first modern-fitted kitchen.
Working closely with appliance manufacturers of the day to integrate its wall and base units with early versions, ‘Form 1000’ paved the way for laboursaving devices in modern houses.
In 2005, ‘PLUSMODO’ was launched in partnership with world-renowned Spanish furniture designer Jorge Pensi, and received four awards, including the Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design, an iF product design award and a Red Dot design award.
Believing modern kitchen china, glassware, saucepans and utensils should co-exist as works of art and tools of production, Poggenpohl has also been involved in creating optimal illumination for food preparation areas.
