The honour to create the Design Bar at this year’s Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair went to Note Design Studio. Using the concept ‘Sulla bocca di tutti’ (meaning “on everybody’s lips”), the studio’s goal is to create a warm, inspirational and generous experience.
The Design Bar at the SFF is every designer’s dream. Year after year, this one-week-only pop-up restaurant and a design exhibition exists to throw a spotlight on one exceptional Nordic design studio. This year, the fair enlisted the expertise of Note Design Studio to create an eye-popping restaurant within the fair.
Working from the SSF 2017 theme, Sulla Bocca di Tutti, meaning “on everybody’s lips”, Note produced a warm and ‘I almost want to eat the furniture’ kind of environment, featuring pieces from both Muuto and Vitra as the heroes of the space.
This exhibition-cum-world-class-restaurant was created in cooperation with Head Chef at Mother in Stockholm, Isabella Morrone, pairing design with high-end culinary culture. Here, the name, Sulla bocca di tutti, reflected the menu, which featured unexpected combinations from the Italian and the Swedish kitchens.
Now let’s talk colour. The colour scheme was a mastery of monochromism – with beautifully placed elements from light pink to deep burgundy. Pink is certainly the palette du jour of present, and while many are trying their hand at crimson, few manage to do it right. With the help of some key pieces from Vitra and Muuto, Note Design Studio have knocked it our of the park, demonstrating how designers can best manifest this trend.
The Design Bar 2017 has been a huge coup for Note Design Studio – who, being founded in 2008, are still relatively new, and trying forge a name for themselves. If their efforts for SSF are anything to go by, then they are certainly ones to watch!
