Leading the way in innovation and excellence, the shortlisted projects in The Learning Space category in the INDE.Awards this year encompass design that is for now and the future. There is rigour within every project where forward thinking concepts are realised through the spatial flow, materiality, colour palette and amenity that combines to foster a greater experience for students, teachers and visitors.

With the shortlist of The Learning Space there is variety in the nature of the institutions and the architecture and design that has been conceived. There are arts and science buildings, primary schools, centres for specialised studies, public and private schools and, whether new builds or adaptive reuse projects, each provides detailed and cutting edge design for a fully resolved project.

There is access to the outdoors, sensitive heritage inclusion, colour and shiny new spaces but whatever the form, each project better assists users to interact with their surroundings, communicate and collaborate, and focus on the act of learning. Along with wonderful design, sustainability is integral to a healthy environment that promotes wellbeing that is essential for better education.
