The Kirketon Hotel in Darlinghurst originally opened in 1999 with a minimalist design by Burley Katon Halliday. The Kirketon brand flourished, but with inflated rooms rates the hotel did not. Acquired by Eight Hotels in 2003, the boutique hotel quickly achieved and maintained full occupancy.
However, the Kirketon has now been given a facelift - redesigned by Connie Alessi of Edge Design. The iconic hotel was completely gutted (except bathrooms) for the refurbishment, with rooms rearranged with an improved layout.
“Comfort, elegance and sumptuousness were the key elements we focused on to create the new Kirketon. Joinery and mirrors were custom designed to give the hotel a unique style and eclectic ambience,” Alessi says.
The Kirketon has been finished with velvet fabrics and pillows, black hand-carved pewter mirrors, dark leathers and timbers, and custom furniture by Tektonik and the hotel’s 40 rooms cater to every need, incorporating the latest technologies.
CEO of Eight Hotels, Paul Fischmann, proclaims: “The new Kirketon is reminiscent of both the great Parisian boutique hotels of old and the new wave of New York International properties.”
The Kirketon Hotel is located at 229 Darlinghurst Road | Darlinghurst | NSW 2010
