Personal shopping, a national past time, has suddenly taken a rest. The affect on retail has been enormous but what does this mean for the future? Will the High Street be re-invigorated as large gatherings of people in malls takes a back seat? If this is the case how will the architecture and design of stores be adapted or changed, or will it be business as usual? What will the shopping experience be like after Covid 19? Surely smart design can provide ideas for thought? Let’s see.

Mark is the Joint Creative Director of DesignOffice. The Melbourne-based studio was established in 2008 and creates buildings and spaces for a wide range of clients across hospitality, retail, residential and commercial sectors.
After graduating from the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture in Scotland, Mark worked in the London offices of both DEGW and Allies & Morrison Architects. Following this, he joined Universal Design Studio in 2002 and worked alongside Damien as part of the core design team for the multi-disciplinary London-based practice.
Arriving in Melbourne in 2006, and prior to establishing DesignOffice, Mark joined Carr Design Group working across a range of market sectors and scales. Following this, he established the Australian office of Universal Design Studio with Jay Osgerby and Edward Barber and re-united with Damien to share the joint direction of the practice which led to the formation of DesignOffice.
Nick Travers is a director at Techne Architecture + Interior Design. Techne has contributed to Australia’s modern design aesthetic by creating spaces that enrich the human experience. The studio’s portfolio encompasses commercial, hospitality, residential, retail and workplace projects. Amongst notable hospitality projects such as The Espy and Brunetti Flinders Lane, the practice’s retail projects include Melbourne Central’s Level Three and showrooms for Porsche.
Andrew is the Principal of place brand and property marketing agency Hoyne. As a leader in brand creation, Andrew has worked on internationally renowned brands from Starbucks to Nike and created the drum logo for Triple J.
Over the last decade Hoyne have evolved to a core focus on place and property, and today they work with major international asset owners, developers and local councils to create recognisable landmarks and destinations; from residential towers and masterplanned communities to commercial developments, new mixed-use precincts, and even cities.
Andrew’s passion for the power of place has led him to produce The Place Economy, a series of resource books on the social and economic benefits of effective. Hoyne has also developed a trio of unique place related processes: Place Visioning™, Instaplace™ and Traderhood™. Hoyne are now considered global thought leaders on place branding and place making.
Eid has extensive experience in the architecture of hospitality projects, commercial fit-outs, and shopping centre and precinct development. All of these projects have involved working within large multi-disciplinary teams and have required detailed program planning, contract management, sub-consultant co-ordination, and government liaison. He has been appointed as the Retail Design Manager for AMP Capital, as well as Walker Corporation, and has taught at the Melbourne School of Design, The University of Melbourne. Eid is a registered architect over four states and territories in Australia.
Jan Henderson is currently the acting-editor of Indesign magazine. Her previous roles have included associate publisher at Architecture Media for three years, co-editor of inside magazine and Interiors editor of Architel.tv for the past six years. As Principal of Henderson Media Consultants she contributes to various architecture and design magazines, is a regular speaker at events and has participated as a juror for industry awards. Jan is passionate about design and through her different roles supports and contributes to design in Australia.
