Professional services company GHD are paving the way for sustainable and comprehensive architectural service
February 11th, 2008
Their aim is to protect the environment from the impacts that may result from their projects – and they are certainly delivering.
Along with providing innovative architectural design for the recently completed RACV Inverloch Resort in Victoria (pictured), GHD considered the environment as the key factor in the design of the site.
The team undertook extensive research into the existing environment – doing soil tests to ensure that Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) principles were employed throughout the design.
Local, renewable materials were used, natural daylight and cross-ventilation employed wherever possible, and in-ground water tanks installed to supply all of the buildings.
Marie Lakos, GHD Architecture manager concludes:
“Traditionally, facilities such as this (RACV Inverloch) have been the victim of institutional architectural style. At GHD our architects focus on delivering innovative architecture which integrates social, cultural, economic and environmental sustainable design, while providing a sense of place to the communities that they inhabit.”
Established in 1928, the professional services company are currently ranked in the world’s top 30 engineering and architecture companies and their Australian architectural division is making a big impact on the architectural world, without the impact on the environment.
GHD were also employed to cover the interior design, landscape architecture, engineering, environmental and geotechnical services, and town planning on the site. Talk about a comprehensive service.
