The industrial design of the early 20th century was a game-changer in many ways, with the expression of function taking greater emphasis. The growing prosperity and technological advancements of this turn-of-the-century period placed greater focus on human-centric design, or how design could best solve problems.

Leading German bathroom fittings manufacturer Hansgrohe draws inspiration from this key period with its latest collection of bath, shower and basin fixtures. AXOR Montreux recalls the authentic forms and defining features of the period. Designed by AXOR and the Stuttgart-based Phoenix Design, AXOR Montreux captures high quality and functionality along with the design aesthetic of an earlier era, rendering these characteristics in a modern context for the 21st century homeowner.

Silke Giessler, Head of AXOR Brand Marketing, suggests that the style and industrial production methods of the early 20th century still hold value today. “We have re-interpreted these features with great precision and workmanship to offer our customers the best in design and functionality – in the bathroom,” says Giessler.

Similar to the rest of the AXOR Montreux bathroom mixer collection, the two-handle floorstanding bath mixer is characterised by stylised detailing and classical features reminiscent of the design sensibilities of a bygone, yet still relevant era. Featuring the Montreux 1jet hand shower and a metal shower hose, the floorstanding bath mixer has a 234mm projection, a flow rate of 22L/min and a standard chrome finish.

A bridge variant of the three-hole washbasin mixer, complete with cross handles and authentically labelled ceramic inlays, is a genuine reminder of the first industrially manufactured fittings.

The new AXOR Montreux collection is available in distinctive chrome and nickel finishes, the latter applied using the highly intricate PVD technology to create an extremely scratch- and abrasion-resistant surface.
