Arper’s Catifa Grows Up

Designed by Lievore Altherr Molina in 2001, Arper’s tremendously successful Catifa 53 chair has spawned a family of products. Meet its newest member, Catifa Up.

Arper’s Catifa Grows Up

Arper has had tremendous success with Catifa 53, a sleek and versatile chair designed in 2001 by Lievore Altherr Molina that offers the perfect balance of conceptual purity, formal optimisation and sensuality. The chair is celebrated for its graceful curves and sensuous silhouette that were achieved through an impressive economy of materials.

But its success can also be attributed to the diverse materials with which it’s produced: double-curved plywood, mono- or patented bi-colour polypropylene (an exclusive process pioneered by Arper), leather, faux-leather and fabric.

Catifa 53 has spawned a large family of Catifa products, and the newest member was launched earlier this year. Catifa Up, also designed by Lievore Altherr Molina, offers a higher backrest than Catifa 53, with the addition of optional armrests in a new design, plush padding and a new range of upholstery options.

It’s a more stately and elegant version of the earlier editions, and though it would sit with dignity in boardrooms, conference rooms and workplaces, it would be just as comfortable in the home office.

Catifa Up is available in a range of colours and with a four-legged trestle base or a five-way base. There is also the option of a swivel and castor wheels. In Singapore, Arper is carried by Space Furniture and Stylecraft.
