July 15th, 2014
On 7 July, the design world gathered at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen to recognise the winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014. Known for its legendary after show parties, the event this year saw more than 1,200 international guests celebrating until the wee hours of the morning. This year’s competition enjoyed a record of 4,815 entries, of which 1,120 products received a Red Dot for outstanding product design, 123 the title of ‘Honourable Mention’ for their successful design solutions, and 72 the highest honour of ‘Red Dot: Best of the Best’. Swedish firm Veryday, who has been named this year’s ‘Red Dot: Design Team of the Year’, also showcased their company’s milestones with a striking presentation. Veryday has a solid 45-year track record in the development of groundbreaking designs. Their notable projects include the BabyBjorn baby carriers, the world’s first computer with a separate keyboard, the SAS coffee pot and the Koenigsegg sports car (see our Red Dot report on Veryday here). For these designs, the Veryday team was awarded the Radius cup, which was personally handed to them by Lenevo, the Red Dot: Design Team of the
Year 2013. The Red Dot winning works and a special presentation by Veryday will be exhibited at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany from 8 July to 3 August 2014. Visit en.red-dot.org for more information. Photos courtesy of the Red Dot Award
