Three years of research and 15 prototypes have distilled into one groundbreaking product that’s set to transform the workspace. The result of all that hard work is Scale – a modular, acoustic, architectural cell that completely rethinks the freestanding room divider, making it highly functioning and utterly flexible.
Scale is the outcome of a collaboration between textile and interior finishes company Woven Image and leading British designer Benjamin Hubert, in response to the transformation underway in the workplace. How we work has been mutating over the last decade – and the shift isn’t over yet.
“Workplaces today are constantly in flux, with teams organically growing and shrinking as projects demand,” says Hubert. “Commercial interior spaces need to be able to adapt to these demands.” This is where Scale is setting new standards, responding in new ways to changing environments by offering an innovative solution to the division of space.
Woven Image first approached Hubert with a vision: to create a totally new and different modular cell, one that becomes acoustic architecture when joined with others of its kind. Woven Image wanted a high performance product that could be used in any number of multiples and in almost endless ways to create and divide space. Hubert was the ideal man for the job. As the founder of multidisciplinary studio Layer, he brings a human approach to design, creating products that have beauty, conscience, emotion and meaning.
Scale possesses all of these qualities. It’s simple yet striking, with a triangular form and organic ridges that is sculptural, even on its own, and it’s a work of art when paired with its fellows. The partition solution is made using sustainable and recyclable materials – including steel bases, aluminium arms and Flax Polyester tiles; a reflection of Woven Image’s ongoing dedication to the environment.
Scale takes assembly back to basics with connectors and nuts and bolts that are intuitive for anyone to put together – no tutorials or expertise required. It’s also easily demountable, as well as being highly versatile: suspend it from a ceiling, hang it on a wall or use it freestanding to create curved walls and separate spaces in hotels, offices, conference rooms and more. Plus it’s double-sided so it looks just as good from one side as it does from the other, and the tiles are easily interchangeable. In addition to all this, it is cost-effective, and offers countless opportunities for customisation and different colours in any contemporary space.
