The results of this year’s Red Dot Award: Design Concept are out, with the top prize going to Boostrac, a tire that provides optimal performance especially in desert driving conditions.

Since its inception in 2005, the Red Dot Award: Design Concept has been giving recognition to innovative and forward-looking pre-production concepts from around the world. To date, as a clear indication of the value that the Red Dot brings to design proposals, many of these winning ideas have gone on to attain commercial success in the marketplace.
This year, 344 winning concepts across 31 categories have emerged out of 4,680 entries from 61 countries. At the awards ceremony held last Friday, 25 September, at the Red Dot Design Museum Singapore, 228 concepts were handed the Red Dot by an international panel of jurors, 40 concepts received the Red Dot: Best of the Best for their design excellence, and 69 submissions were credited with an Honourable Mention.

“Every submitted design concept, prototype or about-to-be-produced concept, is subject to the same level of jury scrutiny, with the name of each entrant masked during adjudication,” explains Ken Koo, Asia President of the Red Dot. “The adventure of discovery is a constant in this design award; within the production line, just behind the scenes, technological advances have enabled new possibilities. Companies and studios have also found a place at this award to have their latest research accessed, leveraging on the expertise of the Red Dot jury to put the concepts through rigorous examination and debate.”
