Green Space

Space Furniture’s latest green initiative aims to inform about all things relating to sustainability of design.

Green Space

May 16th, 2011

Space Furniture has embarked on an initiative to raise awareness of the environmental impact of furniture manufacturing, and show consumers the important role they can play on this issue.

Aptly called ’Green Space’, the programme looks to educate the public on three main aspects that form the heart of Space’s philosophy in sustainability: quality of materials, standards of manufacture, and durability of design.

To launch this initiative, Space has produced a limited print run Green Space booklet that goes out to design students, media as well as key specifiers to highlight the green initiatives undertaken by Space’s major brand partners to improve sustainability and lessen the impact that their business can have on the environment. An online version is also available on the Space website.

“It is safe to say that most people have become increasingly aware of the need for ’green’ thinking when it comes to everyday items such as plastic shopping bags, or the recycling of paper and disposable items,” says Syddal Wee, General Manager of Space Asia. “However, very few people are aware of the potential ecological impact of the production of furniture, and how their choices can significantly improve local environments in the region and the world.”

The booklet, which is printed on 100 percent recycled paper, also introduces the different manufacturing processes and standards from around the world, and their effect on the long-term sustainability of the industry.

To add fun to learning, Space has also launched a Make a Green Pledge online contest where members of the design community stand to win Emeco 111 Navy Chairs made from 111 recycled PET Coke bottles. Contest ends on 30 June.
