Chinese menswear fashion label Lilanz breaks new ground with an ambitious creative hub, designed by dwp.
February 3rd, 2012
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lilanz Creative Centre in Jinjiang, China was held recently.
The ambitious plan conceived by dwp for the mixed-use 165,000 sqm development covers 7 buildings and includes an auditorium, art galleries, fashion studios and retail spaces, as well as residential and workplace complexes.
Mirroring the brand’s international outlook, the design unites Asian and European elements. Soaring diamond-shaped glass curtain walls and steel canopies envelop the entire complex in a ‘Las Ramblas’ style boulevard. The boulevard’s massive roof, however, draws inspiration from the angled rooftops of traditional Quanzhou architecture, and from the pleating, cutting and folding techniques of fashion.
The spacious boulevard runs through the entire site, connecting spaces and buildings. Its efficient, long rectangular form, with stepping floors, also creates rooftop pools, restaurant spaces and a gym.
The executive building is a continuation of the boulevard, hovering like an airborne dragon, with open spaces beneath. And in a nod to Quanzhou’s history as the starting point of the Silk Road’s sea trail, 2 building facades take inspiration from the sails of a majestic vessel.
The project aims to achieve LEED Platinum certification, and is tentatively slated for completion in 2015.
