ACTIU and Desking Systems are teaming up to offer a unique glimpse behind-the-scenes of one of the world’s leading commercial furniture manufacturers.
November 28th, 2011
As the exclusive distributor of ACTIU tables, workstations, seating and storage in Australia, Desking Systems know they’re onto a good thing. ACTIU products aren’t just beautiful and well-designed; they’re also underpinned by ACTIU’s strong commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The heart of ACTIU is the company’s Technology Park in Castalla near Alicante, Spain – a remarkable hub where all the design, research and development and production takes place.
ACTIU is known as one of the most sustainable industrial companies in Europe, having received the LEED EB GOLD certificate from the US Green Building Council in 2011 for the development of the Technology Park. Designed by renowned Spanish architect Jose Maria Tomas Llavador, the building features the largest solar panel installation in Europe over an industrial roof!

The building really needs to be seen to believed. The purpose-built facility incorporates a logistics centre, sports facilities, mediterranean garden and nursery and is surrounded by the mountains of Castalla.
The impressive curved aluminium and glass façade of the building was designed to allow natural light. Every element of the built environment was designed with sustainability in mind – rainwater and snow are collected and used to meet the site’s water needs; sunlight is capitalised on for light and thermal regulation.

The building generates its own clean energy and has the capability to not only power itself, but also a small town. More than just an industrial complex, the ACTIU Technology Park is a world-leading example of state-of-the-art design and sustainability.

ACTIU and Desking Systems are giving one Indesign reader the chance to experience the ACTIU Technology Park first-hand. Subscribe to Indesign magazine before 22 February 2012, share your vision for a sustainable future with us (in 255 characters or less!) and you will go in the running to win a return trip to Spain, including 2 nights in Madrid, 3 nights in Alicante and a day visit to the ACTIU Technology Park.
