Fashion meets furniture in a unique collaboration between Vitra and G-Star.
March 8th, 2012
Swiss furniture manufacturer Vitra and Dutch fashion house G-Star have teamed up to reinterpret 15 of French designer Jean Prouvé’s classic pieces, giving the work of the renowned 20th century Modernist a 21st century spin.
Launched at Art Basel in Switzerland in June 2011, the G-Star Raw Crossover Series Prouvé Collection is available as a limited edition in Australia until the end of 2012.
Prouvé’s original product designs from the 1930s to the 1960s are given a contemporary edge thanks to new finishes from G-Star’s utilitarian denim palette.
G-Star’s brand director Shubahankar Ray, designer Pieter Kool and creative team worked with Jean Prouvé’s daughter Catherine to develop the collection.
Continuing Prouvé’s philosophy of experimentation, the collaboration brings together 2 brands characterised by simplicity and balance in their design. Warm, subdued tones matched with timber elements place the focus on the sculptural form of the furniture.
The G-Star Prouvé RAW Collection is available in Australia from Space Furniture.
