Lighting is a powerful design tool, one that when used correctly will enhance the built environment. A well-considered lighting scheme can also promote productivity, well being, dictate ambience and improve the overall experience of its inhabitants.
So, when it comes down to stellar lighting design, Spanish design powerhouse, Vibia is quick to come to mind. The brand debuted a few new collections by creating an exciting showcase inside a bold design booth in Euroluce 2019 at Salone del Mobile.
Here’s a quick catch-up….
As the name suggests, Tube is a state-of-the-art lighting system that represents a collection of tubes carrying light from a single point to multiple output points. While its immaculate design ensures that light is correctly guided, Tube also offers designers the choice of multiple configurations. Japanese designer Ichiro Iwasaki who is the creative mastermind of Tube adds, “The name of the collection derives from the system of tubes but also from the lines and intersections generated that recall the typical way that underground or subway maps are illustrated.” Light flows in a fluid fashion from shades positioned at different heights, both horizontally and vertically. The aluminium shades are available in off-white and tones of grey, lending a rather urban vibe to the design.
Designed by Maarten de Ceulaer, Gradient reflects a dialogue between light and shadow. This contemporary collection has been designed in striking geometric shapes. The lights, when lit, cast a beautiful gradient of shadows on the wall while also creating a stunning sense of depth. Overall, Gradient helps transform a space by creating a unique experience of light.
The Sticks collection represents an exquisite coming together of technology, poetry and industrial art. Each stick (light) rotates on its own axis and offers numerous creative opportunities for transforming the ambience of an interior. For instance, the stick can be connected from one wall to another and even from the floor to a wall, effortlessly. Arik Levy has developed the cutting-edge designs of this collection.
Dots is a collection of wall sconce lamps designed by Martín Azúa. The collection incorporates subtle variations in lighting effects; one has access to focused reading light, ambient light, and even indirect and orientational light. Overall the collection, with its simplistic form, echoes practicality and is well suited for a home or a public space.
Vibia’s approach towards lighting design revolves around enriching spaces and providing an enhanced user experience. It does so by using a combination of materials, light sources, electronics, smart dimming controls and connectivity systems in tandem with user habits.
