A contemporary design gesture that speaks to a tradition and aesthetic that still holds great appeal

Born on the island of Murano, designer Luca Nichetto’s respect for the artisanal use of glass has informed his latest collection of suspension luminaires for Foscarini.
Endeavouring to mimic the delicate irregularity and refractional properties of blown glass, Nichetto has fused a contemporary blend of polycarbonate materials with the advacnced practice of rotational molding.
The result is a pendant light that in scale and visual impact achieves the impression and aesthetic charm of a large glass fitting with considerably less weight, reduced materials and subsequently: lower cost.
Plass was featured in the recent Venice Architecture Biennale, where the lamps were hung en masse over two floors in the bookshop at the “Common Ground” exhibit.
