On Thursday 24 May, James Street in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley was the place to be as retailers and restaurants took part in the inaugural Up Late in Design.
May 29th, 2012
Held in the lead-up to Brisbane Indesign, Up Late in Design saw fashion, accessories, eyewear, millinery, furniture and lighting retailers open their doors for the evening and host visitors in a fun, street party-style celebration.
Punters flocked to the Design Quarter, where there were Habitus goodie bags filled with mags and products from Aesop, plus Rekorderlig cider and Katnook Estate wine available for all who came. Visitors also got to check out the latest products from Sydney-based design duo Design By Them.
The James Street initiative had tunes pumping across the precinct, as well as pop-up stalls and art installations.
Fashionistas and food-lovers made the most of special deals from 35 participating businesses – 20 | 20 Optical, Bucci, C Gallery, Cru Bar, Derlot/How We Create, DIG, Easton Pearson, ECC Lighting + Furniture, French and English, Jules & Roc, Gary Castles, Ginger’s for Gentlemen Shoe Boutique, Harveys, Innovation Living, Jamie’s, Ksubi, Lumen 8, Mafi, Mecca Cosmetica, Melange Boutique, Nat-Sui, onepointsevenfour, Optiko, Palace Cinema, Sans Peur Workshop, Sass & Bide, Scanlan & Theodore, Space Furniture, St Barts, Stylecraft, The House of Windsor, The Luggage Professionals, The Modern Furniture Store and Tom Gunn.
The fun continued well into the night at a laneway after-party.
Thank you to the Queensland Government for their support, as well as our event partners Dinosaur Designs, Industrial Arc Photography, Rekorderlig Cider and Audi and our media partners InfoLink, The Weekend Edition, DESQ, The Thousands and The Urban List for helping to make it all happen.
