This event talked to (literally) innovative design and reaffirmed Designer Rugs’ commitment to building a thriving community within the architecture and design landscape, where guests heard from the likes of the revered Anna-Carin.

In October, Designer Rugs participated in the annual Industry on Arthur event at (you guessed it) Arthur Street, uniting Brisbane’s architecture and design community for an insightful afternoon. Guests were welcomed with a wellness bar, setting a refreshing tone as they explored the latest collaboration between Designer Rugs and Swedish interior designer Anna-Carin, the Kiruna Collection.
Throughout the event, guests had the unique opportunity to explore the collection up close and engage directly with our design team, who provided insights into Designer Rugs’ handmade offerings. With over thirty-five years of experience, Designer Rugs has crafted pieces that enrich both residential and commercial spaces worldwide, blending quality with distinct creative designs to complement diverse aesthetics.

Anna-Carin captivated the audience with her engaging talk on Designing a Liveable Space, sharing insights into her design process and inspirations that sparked lively conversations among attendees. As they mingled over bubbles and enjoyed a delightful grazing table, the atmosphere brimmed with creativity and connection. “My role as a designer is to understand how my clients want to feel in their spaces and then create a design that reflects and supports those feelings. Aesthetics is about evoking emotion, as opposed to anaesthetics, where one feels nothing at all,” explains Anna-Carin, Director of ANNA.CARIN.
The Kiruna Collection draws inspiration from Carin’s childhood experiences in Kiruna and the rich Sami heritage, artfully merging traditional features with contemporary design. “The journey to Kiruna, the northernmost town in Sweden, at thirteen was pivotal; it was my first time on an aeroplane, and the contrast between the northern and southern landscapes of Sweden struck me profoundly. Growing up in the south, I was accustomed to vibrant, dense colours and lush surroundings. But in Kiruna, I encountered muted light, crisp air, and flora that created an entirely different atmosphere,” says Carin. “This collection is a tribute not only to the sensory memories of that landscape but to the Sami culture, which I have come to respect deeply. The designs aim to capture both the visual essence of that environment and honour the indigenous craftsmanship that inspired me.” This collection brings the beauty of nature and culture into modern interiors, reflecting a narrative that resonates deeply with today’s design ethos.

In line with this spirit of connection and community, Designer Rugs aims to continue fostering engagement within the design industry through events like these. In our recent conversation, Carin shared her thoughts on the vision behind the Industry on Arthur event, stating: “Following the event at Arthur Street, I felt a unique connection with the wonderful people who attended. Sharing the inspiration and stories behind the collection, along with the methodology we use to bring out our clients’ unique aesthetics, created a special bond. I hope these rugs will carry that narrative forward and, in an ethereal way, connect the past with the present.”
Carin continues: “This is my third collection with Designer Rugs, and what makes this collaboration special is the respect and trust we’ve built over the last ten years. They support my creative vision, offering expertise and insights that help make the designs accessible to a broad audience while remaining true to my concept. That mutual respect is fundamental; it’s what allows us to create something both unique and commercially viable.”
