The 6th annual Saturday in Design weekend is almost ready to take over Melbourne, and the international guest lineup is bigger than ever. Check out who’s taking part in 2008.
July 2nd, 2008
Now in its 6th year, Saturday in Design is attracting increasingly global exposure, as well as the best of home-grown talent. International guests from the US, Austria, Denmark and Germany have heard about the festivities and will be making the trip to Melbourne to take part.
The headliners are Harald Gründl and Jeffrey Bernett. Gründl, along with Martin Bergmann and Gernot Bohmann, make up Viennese-based trio Eoos (pictured above), who have designed a number of products for Walter Knoll and also for Matteograssi. They are no strangers to acclaim, with the Kube for Matteograssi winning a Compasso D’Oro award in 2004 and more recently, their CEOO workstation for Walter Knoll taking out the red dot design award 2008 honourable mention.
Jeffrey Bernett (pictured below) hails from New York, setting up his multi-disciplinary design consultancy Studio B in 1995, receiving immediate acclaim at the ICFF in 1996 and again in 2000. Bernett has designed a number of products across a range of disciplines, including the Metropolitan series for B&B Italia. He will be based around the Space showroom at Saturday in Design, hosting a VIP lunch on +Friday 8 August and a breakfast talk on the B&B Italia Project Collection on the Saturday.
There are more international visitors making their way over, with Michael Plank (introducing MYTO by Konstantin Grcic for Plank at Insitu) and Kent Sneddon (Designer of SatinJet technology, Methven), coming along for the ride.
Keep an eye out on the Saturday in Design website saturdayindesign.com.au for more details on where and when you can catch the international guests during SiD.
