A spectrum of creative talks & talent.
August 17th, 2009
Hosted in The Carriageworks for Sydney Design 09, this month’s Pecha Kucha Volume #12 featured stimulating and inspiring talks by a series of Sydney’s creative movers and shakers.
Pecha Kucha, Japanese for ‘chit-chat’, is a dynamic form of presentation where each speaker is limited to 20 seconds for each of the 20 slides presented. ’¨’¨The line-up, including architects, artists, graphic designers, radio DJs and record label executives, provided a whirlwind through the creative disciplines that are flourishing around Australia.
Christey Johansson from one8one7, the graphic and illustration studio behind InDesign’s 2009 relaunch, demonstrated her passion for collecting and visually diarizing travel experiences. ’¨’¨
Future Classic, the record label and design house, illustrated the 10 steps to making it happen, and TZG, the architects behind The Carriageworks, talked us through the fascinating regeneration process of turning the disused railway yard into a dynamic contemporary art hub.
Other architectural contributors included Dirk Anderson, from Urban Future Organisation. This innovative design practice is a global network of architects who share a strategy of ‘creative efficiency’. Casa Francesco in Italy and The Fold Apartment in Sydney, currently under construction, illustrate the studio’s interest in wrapped surfaces and ribbon-like forms.
