Indesign Group takes part in an engaging exhibition at the Gallery of Australian Design in Canberra that celebrates and promotes Australian design titles.
August 25th, 2010
Each issue of a design publication is a bit like an exhibition – carefully curated by editors to present to readers the best on offer in a particular area.
Design Media in Australia, at the Gallery of Australian Design in Canberra, turns the curatorial eye to the publications themselves with an exhibition of Australia’s premier design publications.
Each publication – and, with the inclusion of one8one7’s virtual _blank magazine, this wasn’t limited to the tangible – was invited to create a freestanding 1.8m2 interactive installation.
Indesign Group’s installation, by Aaron Copeland and Lisa Capezio of Canberra-based interiors studio, Copeland Design, incorporated the three print publications – Indesign, Habitus and DQ. The concept explored how people stack and store magazines after reading.
Copeland and Capezio playfully upped the scale, creating a series of tables from over-sized ply magazines made using Versiply by Laminex, on which copies of the actual magazines were displayed.
‘WB’ stools from Zenith Interiors completed the installation, providing a place for guests to take a seat and get familiar with the publications.
Design Media in Australia will be exhibited at the Gallery of Australian Design until Wednesday 25 September 2010.
