Five Master of Architecture students showcase their creations at Ping Pong Gintonería.
August 18th, 2016
On show right now at Ping Pong Gintonería is an exhibition of works by students enrolled in the Master of Architecture programme at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
Hidden behind a relatively innocuous red door in Sai Ying Pun, the bar is known to most simply as Ping Pong. It offers a variety of boutique gins and which specialises in gin cocktails, and it is the brainchild of interior designer and architect Hugh Zimmern, who spent much of his career with Leigh & Orange before branching out on his own. Zimmern has created F&B spaces for Gaia Group, and he also has a luxe homewares business, Faux, with business partner Louis Papachristou.

Ping Pong regularly hosts artist exhibitions, with upcoming shows including a solo show by Richard Winkworth. Titled 5 Pins 5 Points, this Masters of Architecture exhibition takes a different approach; one that’s fitting, given Zimmern’s architectural background. “There is generally a lack of venues for showing architecture in Hong Kong,” explains Zimmern. “There is also a lack of discourse on architecture topics, so this is a small attempt to address that.”
Five students are participating in this show: Chan Pak Chuen, Thomas Chee, Vickie Ma, Eunice Tsui and Sunny Poon. “These are some of the top students from this year’s Chinese U graduates,” says Zimmern. “I think the standard is particularly high this year.”
5 Pins 5 Points is on show at Ping Pong Gintoneria until 26 August 2016. Ping Pong Gintonería is located at 129 Second Street, L/G Nam Cheong House, Sai Yin Pun.
