In its latest explorations with material, Nendo will present vases that float like jellyfish in water.
Always finding innovative ways to turn a conventional viewpoint on its head, Japanese design studio Nendo will be showing vases floating in water, as opposed to the other way around, at Milan Design Week in April.
A total of 30 vases will be placed in a 1800mm aquarium fill with water, with the strength and direction of the water’s current adjusted to undulate at just the right ‘moderate’ level.
The vases are made of ultrathin transparent silicon that has been dyed twice to give the impression that what is floating in water is but a graduated silhouette of colours.
With the vases gently moving much like a jellyfish would thanks to the softness of the silicon, the installation serves to redefine the customary roles of flower, water and vase.
